Why Detoxification?
"One of the critical facts
overlooked is that toxic chemicals accumulate and store in body tissues
until they reach a level of concentration that affects the control systems
of the body. This leads to altered function and decreased function of the
nervous system, the immune system and the endocrine system. It accounts
for the wide range of symptoms and diseases suffered by so many people
today. Not understanding this basic factor underlying these conditions,
medical science and the entire field of health care is in a great deal of
confusion about the true nature of many health disorders."
Dr. Michael Broeg
Founder of Clearsprings Health Center
A
Universal Problem
Our clinical research and
experience clearly indicates that EVERYBODY in today's
world,
especially those living in industrialized countries such as the
United States, is exposed to
thousands of environmental chemicals
during their everyday life. Nobody can escape this
fact.
One of the
critical things overlooked is that toxic chemicals accumulate and
store in body
tissues until they reach a level of concentration that
affects the control systems of the body
(nervous system, endocrine
system and immune system). This accounts for many undesirable
symptoms
and illnesses suffered by many people.
Coupled with the widespread use of over-the-
counter, street and
prescription drugs, human exposure to toxic chemicals is perhaps the
most
significant underlying factor affecting reduced wellness and
illness in our society today.
Even
Healthy People Are Adversely Affected
Today many people
are aware of and practice generally good health care and disease
prevention.
Despite this fact, most people find themselves at a level
of wellness that is significantly less than
it should be for the amount of effort they are putting into their health. Our research
indicates
that this is due to the accumulation of toxic chemicals in
body tissues. We have found that the
average person has a 'basic toxic
load' that acts like a chemical wall or barrier, through
which,
their everyday life is filtered.
Natural
Methods are Less Effective Today
Almost all
practitioners of natural healing methods that have been in practice
over several
decades will agree that natural healing methods are less
affective today than in years past.
While natural methods are
certainly the best first approach to any health problem, most of our
clients report that in spite of diet changes, supplementation,
exercise and other methods, they
are not experiencing effective
results from their efforts. We can conclusively say that the primary
reason for this is the 'basic toxic load' that exists even with the
application of most natural
health practices. It's as if their is a
chemical wall that exists between a person and the optimum
expression
of health and life. This chemical barrier effectively reduces one's
level of health in
spite an efforts to practice good health. Most
people find it an uphill battle. The initial stages of
chemical
toxicity in humans expresses itself in common symptoms such as:
Depression Anxiety Fatigue Memory Loss
Mental Fogginess Mood Swings Muscle Pain
Joint pain
Impaired Thinking 'Sick all over' Sleep Disorders
Chronic Infections
Allergies
Insomnia
Eczema
Heart Palpitations
Clinical experience along
with review of scientific literature strongly suggests that chemical
toxicity
is the major underlying factor in many disease conditions prevelant on
today's health care scene such as:
Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome
Fibromyalgia Syndrome
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
Environmental Illness
Thyroid Abnormalities
Certain Cancers
Arthritis
Lupus
Multiple Sclerosis
Lou Gehrig's Disease
Respiratory Diseases
Heart Disease
ADHD
Autism
Miscarriages
Clinical Depression
Panic Disorder
Hyperactivity
While huge sums of money
have gone into identifying the health affects of chemical exposure in
the
human population, little has gone into developing methods to safely
and effectively remove them
from body tissue. At Clearsprings we are successfully treating many of
today's difficult to treat
chronic and degenerative health conditions.
The
Clearsprings Difference
The Natural Health
Programs at Clearsprings are designed around *SYSTEMIIC
DETOXIFICATION, which effectively reduces the body burden of
toxic chemicals. In conjunction
with other components of our program,
clients report back that they are getting much more
benefit from
natural methods such as diet and exercise.
*SYSTEMIC
DETOXIFICATION - We refer to the Clearsprings Method of
detoxification as systemic
detoxification to signify that it
helps detoxify all body cells, tissues and organs, including the the
clearing of neurotoxins from the brain and
nervous system. This label is to differentiate it from
many of the
common detoxification actions such as a colon detox, liver detox,
etc., that target a
specific organ or tissue.
*Neurotoxin -a
toxic agent or substance that
inhibits, damages or destroys the tissues of the
nervous system,
especially neurons, the conducting cells of your body's central
nervous system.
Consider The Toxic Problem
-
In 1990, the U. S. Senate
Committee on Science, Space and Technology in a study on
Neurotoxins reported that there were over 65,000 substances
currently in use. They
determined that some of the health effects of
neurotoxins were anxiety, depression,
fatigue, sleep disorders, loss
of memory, dizziness, loss of concentration, ataxia (lack of
co-ordination of voluntary muscular movements), dyskinesia (impairment
of the power of
voluntary movement), as well certain named diseases
such as Parkinson's Disease,
Multiple Sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's Disease,
Alzheimer's Disease and certain cancers.
-
Over 20 million Americans
work with neurotoxins. (OSHA)
-
177 different kinds of
organo-chlorines (highly reactive neurotoxins with carbon-chlorine
bonds that include pesticides, dioxin, PBC's, solvents, and more) can
be found in the
tissues of the average American. (Environmental
Protection Agency [EPA])
-
750 million pounds of
some 20,000 different pesticides are spead over the U. S. each
year.
(EPA)
-
70% of all pesticides in
use have fraudulent reports of animal safety tests. (EPA)
-
Toxicity data is not
available for 80% of the 49,000 chemicals currently in commercial use.
Of the more than 70,000 chemicals in daily use, only 2% have complete
toxicity data.
(National Chemistry Registry [NCR])
-
The EPA's primary concern
about the long term effect of chemical toxicity is cancer. It's
second
greatest concern is chemical sensitivity. (EPA)
-
70,000 legal dumpsites
sites in the U.S. take in over 82 BILLION gallons of hazardous
waste
each day. (EPA)
-
Over 3,000 chemicals are
knowingly added to food. (Food & Drug Administration [FDA])
-
The food in the average
American shopping trip is laden with 60 to 80 pesticides,
herbicides, rodenticides and fungicides. (FDA)
-
The National institute of
Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) sampled 5,000 work
places and found 8,000
different toxic substances of which only 500 were regulated by
OSHA. (NIH)
-
The most common source of internal
exposure to concentrated toxic chemicals is
prescription and over-the
counter drugs.
-
* Iatrogenic toxins (prescription drugs)
are the
second leading cause of death in the
United States
-
Toxic chemicals accumulate
and store in human body tissue.
* Iatrogenic -
Illness or injury caused by medical drugs and surgery.
- Know About the Problem
-
Persistent Bioaccumulative
Toxins
(PBT's)
Common PBT’s
Where
they are
How
to avoid them
PBDE’s Polybrominated diphenyl ethers
– used for public safety, but can also be
a public hazard. PBDE’s are
used as flame retardants and are building up in people’s bodies. They are
known to cause developmental, endocrine and immunological disorders.
Some places where they are found: many kitchen items such as coffeemakers,
blenders,
microwaves, dishwashers and toasters; carpets, synthetic
clothing, and toys. PBDE’s are
used extensively in commercial airplanes
and public buildings to reduce the risk of spreading
fire.
How to avoid them:
Use organic materials in the home and clothing. Unfortunately, due to
increased legislation intended to protect the public from fire hazards, PBDE’s are found in
most commercially available fabrics, appliances,
furniture and building materials, and are used
extensively in public
places; which makes them unavoidable.
Phthalates (Plasticizers)
– Plastics,
plastics everywhere. These chemicals have a huge
array of uses, from
making vinyl flexible to giving body lotions the right consistency. They
cause
developmental, neurological, endocrine and immunological health
problems. They are also known
to cause problems in the sexual development
of males.
Some places where
they are found: Plastic containers and bottles, food wrap, vinyl flooring,
water bottles, lawn furniture, garden hoses, plastic toys, roofing
materials, PVC products,
almost all flexible vinyl products, make-up and
lotions.
How to avoid them:
Use plant based organic make-up and lotions. A few cosmetic companies
are
shunning them, but unfortunately plastic products as a whole, permeate our
culture
and are difficult to avoid.
Pesticides
– They’ve been bugging us for a long time. Some, like DDT, have been
banned in
this country, but unfortunately, even the one’s
made illegal in this country are still produced and sold
to foreign
(especially third world) countries where much of our food is
imported
from. The list of
those still commonly in use for killing everything from
roaches to exotic
fungi is long, long, long, and
a great deal of research
has directly linked them to developmental, neurological, endocrine, and
immunological health problems.
Some places where
they are found: lawn and garden, pet flea collars, the food, the air and
the water we live with and consume.
How to avoid them:
Buy and grow organic food. Wash non-organic food thoroughly before
eating.
Unfortunately, these bad boys have been with us for many decades and the
environment is ‘silently saturated’ with them. If you live in an
agricultural area, limit build up
in your home by vacuuming and washing
your house surfaces regularly.
Perfluorooctane Acids
- First
brought to us by 3M, this group of pernicious space age
helpers was first
introduced as Teflon. Used as scratch, stick and stain resistant coatings,
some have
been made illegal because they have been found to be measurably
pervading the entire global
environment. As with other groups, as they are
make their illegal, new similar chemicals are created,
produced and
distributed until they can prove that like their predecessors; they are
causing
developmental, neurological, immune and endocrine health disorders
as well as cancer.
Some places where
they are found: Non-stick pans, utensils and cooking surfaces, carpets,
upholstery and fabrics.
How to avoid them:
Use natural fibers in the home and clothing and use stainless steel, cast
iron, and wooden cooking utensils. Now found to pervade the air, water and
food over the
entire planet, we are just going to have to remember where
we parked our starship to avoid
this group.
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s)
– long banned,
they are still with us (persistent).
These wonder chemicals were valued
for their flame retardant, cooling and insulating qualities in
refrigerant
and electrical systems. Their durability is the gift that keeps on
giving… developmental,
neurological, immunological and endocrine health
disorders, liver damage and cancer.
Some places where
they are found: Food, air and water. They are in the food chain globally.
How to avoid them:
Now banned, they remain pervasive. Avoid eating foods produced in areas
known to be contaminated with high levels of PBC’s.
Dioxins
– Industrial
by-products and a by-product of fires Similar in toxicity to PCB’s,dioxins
result
from industrial activities and fires. They enter the food chain in
contaminated areas and build up in
both plant and animal fats. Dioxin
laced soup may have been the vehicle used to poison Ukrainian
president
Victor Yushchenko, leaving his face disfigured. The gift list from dioxins
includes
developmental, neurological, endocrine and immunological health
disorders as well as birth defects
and cancer.
Some places where
they are found: commercially produced meats, dairy, fish, oils, grain and
produce.
How to avoid them:
Buy, eat and grow organic and natural food.
Bisphenols
– Hormones in
your water bottle. Bicarbonate plastics, found in some rigid plastic
bottles are made with bisphenol. This synthetic estrogen leaches into
liquid over time as the plastic
degrades. Research shows that these
estrogens cause reproductive and developmental problems in
both males and
females.
Some places where
they are found: Plastic containers and the linings of food containers.
How to avoid them:
Avoid using hard plastic bottles. Unfortunately, research shows that
background environmental levels are high enough to be causing harmful
health problems with
humans.
Metals
– Deadly
poisons hiding in plain sight. Toxic metals are some of the most common
industrial poisons in the home. Old paint, tuna and other fish, tooth
fillings, pressure-treated lumber
and on and on it goes. Heavy metals have
long been known to cause developmental, neurological,
endocrine and
immunological health problems on a scale from mild to death. The problem
with many
heavy metals such as mercury, lead, arsenic and cadmium is they
never break down because they are
elements; they can never turn into
anything else and their poisonous characteristics endure forever.
Some places they are found: Mercury contaminated fish, pressure treated
lumber, power plant
emissions, lead based paints, all
fluorescent lamps, batteries, thermostats, computer boards,
telephone
switches, thermometers.
How to avoid them:
Remove or seal old paint and pressure treated lumber. Properly recycle
batteries and fluorescent
light bulbs.
Pregnant women and children should avoid eating certain fish.
Pharmaceutical Drugs
–
In our opinion
over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceutical
drugs are the most
immediate threat to human health. Dangerously and disastrously, they are
being
brought to us in the form of HELP. The profit driven
pharmaceutical/medical industry spends billions
of dollars yearly in
advertising and bribery to influence us to swallow their bad science, lies
and
consequently there harmful poisons; promising it will somehow bring us
improved health and
happiness. Fatal reactions to prescription drugs are
the number one killer of Americans.
Pharmaceuticals are the most prevalent
and accessible source of concentrated chemical toxins
available today… and
people are swallowing them by the tons daily. Almost all of these
poisonous
toxic chemicals are manufactured from petroleum and accumulate
and store in human tissue and are
creating the pathologies threat are
fueling their manufacture, production and distribution. In our
opinion, the
most damaging of all drugs are the new breeds of psychoactive,
mind-bending psychiatric
medications such as anti-depressants, anti-psychotic and mood altering
drugs. They are the problem
and not the solution.
Some places they
are found: Hospitals, doctor’s offices, drug stores, grocery stores,
conveniences stores, medicine cabinets, purses and
shirt pockets.
How to
avoid them: Develop a sensible approach and effective natural
methods in
health care and daily living. Exhaust natural methods before resorting to
drug
use and surgery.
Unfortunately, commercial television and other media have become a
significant
marketing tool that is has gained a power of influence over the American
public
with Direct-TO-Consumer
(DTC) Advertising.
It can be easily demonstrated that DTC
advertising dollars are proportional to
pharmaceutical company sales/profits with a parallel
sharply upward line
on a simple graph. It is
fueling consumption that in turn fuels the increasing
toxification of
A large percentage of our
population. Doctors complete the self perpetuating
cycle by treating the
resulting
PHARMOGENIC pathologies so prevalent today with more
and more drugs. Drugs are a
wonderful life saving technology that
needs to be employed in
heroic lifesaving
situations as a radical
intervention. They should not be they primary
mode
of treatment for general healthcare. Natural and conservative
alternatives
should be the
primary porthole of entry into the health care system. Seek out licensed
professional health care providers that
use a non-drug approach first.

Answering the
Challenge
As the environment around us becomes
increasingly toxic and the use of prescription and
over-the-counter
medications escalates, the need for the detoxification of your body
tissues
becomes paramount for both health and beauty. While huge sums of
money have gone into
identifying the health effects of toxic chemical
exposure, little has gone into developing methods
to safely remove them from body tissue. Often, the best conventional and even alternative
medicine can offer is partial temporary relief of the symptoms of chemical
related health disorders.
For the past 20 years, Dr.
Michael Broeg, the Director of Clearsprings, has been engaged in the
research and development of science-based, safe and
effective programs for the detoxification
of human body tissue. The
primary emphasis of the Natural Health Programs at Clearsprings is
Systemic Detoxification, a clinically proven method of cleansing
toxic chemicals from the body
and rehabilitating damaged tissues. Included
in the program in addition to detoxification protocols
are individualized exercise and diet
instructions as well
as a realistic and doable follow-up program
to help you retain and even
advance your health gains once you return home. Our clients consistently
report a dramatic and positive elevation in their level of health and
well-being as the results of their
program at Clearsprings.
